Students will be introduced to product designing from concept to output on a selected theme: dinosaurs. Students will research, collect samples and analyse how artists have tackled the same topic. Students will introduced to character development to develop various animations and the humanizing their character. Students will produce a series of illustrations for a storybook or cartoon which can be hardcopy or electronic in final output for a selected children's audience.

Students will work individually and in groups to be able to devise procedures and processes for collecting and collating and researching material. Student will be able to develop skills in interpreting ideas and styles and increase their writing ability by composing stories for a selected children's audience. Students will be able to develop communication skills, interaction with peers, reading, writing and presentation. Students will explore and idea and develop a drawing style to suit an audience, in this case, a child audience. Students will increase their knowledge and skills in 2d drawing media (including electronic ) used in illustration |

Time: 6 periods X 50 minutes. This includes discussion , research, collating samples, evaluating ,designing characters, layout , storyline and story boarding, producing and presenting end products. |

Discussion of Topic Student will be introduced to the purposes of Information and Communications technology. Students will be alerted to how information was used and disseminated in the past and the current means of communication and acquiring information. Students will devise a comparative chart to show the difference between the two approaches past and present. This can be presented in a variety of ways: drawing, slide show Powerpoint, Hyperstudio or Kid Pix. (These programs will be hyperlinked with a lesson to indicate sample lesson outcomes with specific programs) Discussion of Theme: Pets. Students will be asked to create a list indicating their favourite pets. These will be documented in a database to show type of pet, breed, name, tricks the pets, most lovable characteristic, the funniest incident that they remember about their pet. To collect enough data for analysis and reporting students will email students from the same year level doing the same topic. Students may also go beyond this to other classes, other year levels, school community or another school. Obviously this will require work on behalf of the teacher to arrange some of this. Lesson Two: Students are to use a database program which requires the knowledge of tables, queries, forms and reports. Student will enter the following data about their pets: Type of animal, breed of animal, name of animal, favourite trick of animal, special features, age of animal. Students will then consider a variety of ways of presenting data.- The teacher will introduce multimedia, (hyperlink) such as Powerpoint or Hyperstudio, desktop publishing (hyperlink) programs such as MS Publisher, Creative Artist and photoediting (hyperlink) programs such as Paintshop Pro and web publishing (hyperlink) such as Dreamweaver . Students- they will work in groups to enable support in learning techniques in each specific software packages. Lesson Three: Students will be asked to design an outline of their pet and type in a story or poem about their pet. These can be presented to the class in a variety of ways static display, on-line display, publishing in the schools newsletter or electronic noticeboard. . Art:
Drama: student play or skits based on fractured fairy tales SOSE a) Study of myths and legends related to areas of study in SOSE, for eg. Vikings students could investiage nordic myths and legends SOSE b)Students can visit website that has folk and fairy tales from other countries. Student may pick fairy tales from their parents or grandparents place of birth. Students present a comparison between the fairytales characters, plot, setting and so on. ENGLISH: Students can read stories to the class and/or make a presentation which would requiring them to use cue cards for the main points on character, plot and sequence. VISUAL ARTS: Students could draw the main event or highlight in the fairy story and write a significant quote LOTE investigate the fairytales, myths and legends of languages other than English taught at the school. For eg. Italian the adventures of Pinnochio could be expanded. TECHNOLOGY: Make an avi of student play in Drama Publish student examples on the Internet Gallery, make a multimedia interactive using HyperStudio or Kidpix. A desktop publishing package using scanned images of students illustrations of fairytales to create a book. |
