Project Outline

 

The project is divided up into four phases. The phases have the common theme of water consumption but each phase can be completed as a discrete unit.

The four phases:

Phase Duration Activity
1. Why save water? Two periods class time, between now and 21st June Class discusses how we use water in Australia and determines common strategies for students to measure water consumption in their homes.
2. Measuring our use of water One week outside class. One period of class time Data on water use is collected, collated and submitted. Class data is analysed to determine how household water consumption is distributed.
3. Where is our water used? One period, after the 15th of July Information is published on this website and students compare the data that they collected with that of school students in other places. Students pose questions and suggest reasons for levels of water use in different places and brainstorm domestic water reduction strategies.
4. How can we save water? ad-hoc mail list ongoing Students discuss differences in their water usage with other schools through a mailing list and answer questions about the reasons for water consumption levels
